Hello dear friends,
We are very excited. The open Flexible, Distance and Online Learning course starts on the 12th of September 2013. We look forward to learning together with colleagues from around the world until early December and develop and extend our thinking and understanding around learning and teaching in the digital age.
We learnt a lot from the FDOL131 pilot (all resources from this can be found under the FDOL131 tab – feel free to use any of these and remember to reference appropriately – which was offered from February to May 2013 lead to the further refinement of the pedagogical design of FDOL132.
At the heart are our learners, their context and what they want to get out of this course. We have learnt that learners value working and learning with others and that this motivates them also to keep going in an open course and have enabled this via a simplified Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach and PBL activities which are supported by experienced PBL practitioners. PBL groups will be cross-disciplinary and cross-institutional to give an extra richness to the experience. If you would prefer learning as an autonomous learner and dip in and out, this is absolutely fine and possible too. If you would like to bring a whole group or cohort of learners from a specific programme or module from your institution to join us, that would be fantastic. Think about how you can use FDOL132 to open-up your institutional offer and extend wider learning conversations. For further information about the design for learning we are using, but also opportunities to be involved, please look around this site. And if you have any questions, please get in touch.
One of the organisers (this is Chrissi) will also be contacting all FDOL participants shortly after joining to ask for their consent to participate in her PhD research and provide valuable data for her project. No problem at all, if you would not like to be part of this. You will still be able to fully partipate in FDOL132.
Have a look around the site and register at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dDdPZ2pURUFEXzNPZXA1ZjFIcm85blE6MA if you would like to be part of FDO132.
We can’t wait to get started 😉
The FDOL team
